Crypto Skeptic Ben McKenzie Reads Mean Tweets at Our First WIRED@Night Live Event

A few crypto bros on X were not happy about the first WIRED@Night event. On Thursday, April 16th, WIRED readers gathered at the @acehotelbrooklyn for a conversation with actor turned crypto skeptic Ben McKenzie (@mrbenmckenzie), co-author of "Easy Money" and director of the upcoming documentary "Everyone Is Lying to You for Money." After kicking off the night by reading some mean tweets about the event, McKenzie chatted with WIRED Senior Correspondent Andy Greenberg about the facts and fiction of cryptocurrency, and took questions from the audience. Subscribe to WIRED to get an early heads up to our next events. Who should we give a list of mean tweets to next?

Two irrelevant losers.

[audience laughs]

When did WIRED die?

WIRED all caps, DIE in all caps, two question marks.

You do realize that if you're wrong about this, quote,

in parentheses, [and you are],

you're telling the people not to move

to the money of the future.

You will be terminally hated for slowing people's adoption,

when they have this massive opportunity

to materially improve their lives.

[Peer] So dramatic.

And the last one, the soy is oozing?

What is that?

[Peer] I think we're being called soy boys.

Oh boy.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.
