Here's Everything Apple Announced at WWDC 2017
Released on 06/06/2017
This is going to be
the best and biggest WWDC ever.
[Narrator] At WWDC 2017, Apple showcased
a ridiculously powerful iMac,
its long awaited smart speaker,
and a 10.5-inch iPad Pro.
And those are just some of the hardware updates.
Here are the major takeaways from Apple's big show and tell.
That Amazon is coming.
[Narrator] Fans of The Handmaid's Tale rejoice.
Amazon Prime Video is finally coming to Apple TV.
Watch wearers, you have a new OS.
Watch OS4 has new faces powered by Siri
and updated user interfaces for workout and music apps.
I can make a playlist
that automatically starts with my workout.
[Narrator] For homebodies, Apple finally has
a smart speaker of its own.
It is absolutely beautiful, and we call it
HomePod.
[Narrator] The $349 HomePod promises room-filling sound,
thanks to a four-inch subwoofer and seven tweeters.
When it ships in December,
it'll have Siri baked in.
But Apple spent more time playing up its music smarts
as a so-called musicologist
than its abilities as a virtual assistant.
When you say those magic words, Hey Siri.
[Narrator] How it will stack up against Amazon's Echo
and Google Home remains to be seen.
Apple also unveiled its most powerful desktop ever,
the iMac Pro.
This badass space gray computer
has a new thermal cooling system,
up to an 18-core Xeon processor, Radeon Vega graphics,
up to 22 Teraflops of half-precision computing power,
and 128 gigs of ECC memory,
not to mention a bunch of Thunderbolt ports.
In other words, it is a monster
aimed directly at the Pro market,
with plenty of power for 3D rendering,
VR, and machine learning applications.
When it goes on sale in December,
it'll start at $4,999.
Of course, it also needs a new OS to go with it, sort of.
Apple's calling its update to Sierra, High Sierra.
They assured us this name is fully baked.
[Narrator] Safari now blocks autoplay videos
and will supposedly filter tracking ads.
Mail's getting better search.
Photo's getting better editing tools,
search filters, and facial recognition capabilities.
Apple also showed off Metal 2,
which makes Macs more capable for game and VR development.
Desktops and laptops are getting faster,
more efficient Kaby Lake processors.
MacBooks are getting quicker solid-state drives.
And the 15-inch MacBook Pro is getting better graphics.
Oh, and both the 13-inch MacBook Pro
and the 4K iMac now start at $1299.
Most advanced mobile operating system
and turn it up to 11.
[Narrator] iOS 11, Apple's latest mobile operating system
is also getting a ton of upgrades.
Control Center will now pack all of your settings in sliders
onto one page.
There's a brand new app drawer,
smarter multitasking, drag and drop functionality.
Apple Pay will now let you pay friends through iMessage.
[Siri] Here's the forecast for the next 10 days, sun.
[Narrator] Siri now has more human sounding voices
and is getting better translation tools as well.
Apple's much maligned Maps app
will now come with floor plans for airports and malls.
So you can plan.
[Narrator] There's also a new feature called
Do Not Disturb While Driving
that blocks out notifications when you're on the road.
We have this new user interface for you.
[Narrator] It's about time.
Apple also showed off AR Kit,
a tool that will bring more sophisticated augmented reality
to iPhones and iPads.
Speaking of iPads, Apple packed a 10.5-inch screen
into the body of the old 9.7-inch iPad Pro.
It's also gearing the machines with faster refresh rates,
processor boosts, brighter screens,
and memory bumps across the board.
Both iPad models now start with 64 gigs.
This was an event for Apple's core users,
with a monstrous Pro desktop,
a more powerful iPad Pro,
and AR and VR toolkits.
If you're a consumer,
there are lots of slick software updates
and the new HomePod speaker.
Consider this all a preview
of updates expected later this year,
from Apple Watch to iPhone to Apple TV.
