RE:WIRED 2021: Yoky Matsuoka on Maintaining Agency When Using AI

How do you think about the way in which

we maintain agency as humans?

When AI is tracking us

and sometimes knows us better than we know ourselves.

You know I actually really believe

in human in the loop AI right now, you know,

that I think AI should assist people to make decisions.

AI should be there to help,

but not to do things at this time.

So that's why our AI

is utilized in a way that, you know,

in the background our assistants are still there.

They can use those system as a tool

to help them still interact with humans.

So that's really how I imagine

the way we keep supporting families to be.

We also need to really respect, you know,

that the boundaries and independence.

That's another thing that

we would love to be able to do a great job at.

So, you know, that's another place where

we will make sure that the user side,

that people who are actually

using those systems will give consent.

And then that, again, the human is in there

to make sure that the information that the AI produced,

that doesn't go directly to places

and automatically start to act on it.
