When my boy was about three years old,

we lived in Texas then,

and come across the radio about people driving to you

with the bright lights, don't flash 'em.

Because it was gang members, they'd get behind you

and follow you home and shoot you,

and that was their gang initiation.

So that's no place to raise a kid, you know?

I wanna go back home.

We were blending a family together

and we found a house big enough,

so we decided to move to Picher.

And it reflects us as being people who like

privacy and we like just being who we are.

The LICRA Trust was created statutorily in 2004

for the purpose of buying out families

that had small children, ages six and younger.

A lot of these children have learning disabilities

prior to the age of six because of the lead content

that was here locally.

Whenever I wash dishes, the hot water came out black.

So that keeps in the back of your mind,

you might want to be precautionary on that.

We don't take any special precautions.

Whenever you take wildlife of any type

that you clean or catch, if you put it in the freezer,

when you freeze it, then that takes all the impurities

out of it—all of it.

And, of course, then when you turn around

to thaw it out and cook it,

then the heat takes all the impurities out of it too.

As far as being worried about living in this area,

being worried about dust contamination,

this so-called lead contamination, no.

That never even crosses our mind.

Saw too much evidence of the health of people

for so many years, and I have nothing to worry about.

If I believed that there was a health issue here,

I would get up and start over, leave,

you wouldn't get me anymore.

Let us raise our families and be happy.

We are not going through your neighborhood

and taking your shit.

Quit kicking us, leave us alone, let us live.
