Wired On Tour With Laura Stevenson Pt. 1
Released on 03/11/2013
(lively playful music)
My name is Laura Stevenson.
I play the guitar, and I sing,
and I write the songs in the band.
Mike Campbell plays bass,
Alex Billig plays the accordion,
Dave Garwacke plays drums,
and Peter Naddeo plays guitar.
I'm not gonna sit here and take this.
(laughing)
[Man] Afraid you are.
(laughing)
Oh!
[Lauren] --then yes.
While you were gone,
Peter decided to start a prank war.
(laughing) Oh, no.
This can only end in us being kicked out.
It's our second time going to South by Southwest.
Yesterday we drove to Brooklyn,
packed up our van, and then drove to D.C.
And then we loaded in at 10:00 a.m. the next day
for a festival.
And then kind of just stood around at a meet-and-greet.
(laughing) Didn't really meet or greet anyone.
You can draw sitting like that.
We should just hang out here or...
Oh, God.
And now we're in Ohio.
Just waiting for the next thing.
Playing in Kentucky tomorrow.
(chattering)
I write songs that are influenced by
the music that my dad would play for me,
which was a lot of Neil Young, a lot of Beatles.
The other band members are bringing in influences like
Peter really likes Johnny Marr.
Mike is really into The Replacements,
and he's really into power-pop.
Alex is really into, like, more kind of, like,
freak-folk, anti-folk singer-songwriters.
And Dave, our drummer, really likes pop-punk.
So it's cool, they definitely help me
kind of, like, play out what the song is gonna be
at the end of the day.
(lively folk music)
♫ Hey, you the lucky kid
♫ The others have come down with it
♫ In the early stages, baby
♫ So that means you have to watch them carefully
♫ So keep them from running near the corner
♫ When you are playing, play nice
♫ And mind the nice lady three times daily
♫ She'll give them something to make it, to make it go away
♫ And you complain, you complain, you complain
♫ Oh deary, your mother's got a fever
♫ And clearly your daddy's gonna leave her
♫ That leaves you with your little sisters
♫ Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
♫ And you know they didn't mean to cut you
♫ Just had to see if your blood was sick, too
♫ And it's clear with all the critters
♫ weakening your sisters
♫ And your system's running quick
♫ and not as sickly as you think
♫ And you will live long
♫ You will bury them all in the ground
♫ And your body will grow
♫ And you'll bury them all
♫ And you will live long
♫ You will bury them all in the ground
♫ And your body will grow
♫ And you'll bury them all
♫ And you will live long
♫ You will bury them all in the ground
♫ And your body will grow
♫ It hurts to be the healthy one
♫ Ohh
Thank you.
All right-y!
