You Can Now Talk to Barbie. Oh, and She's a Hologram
Released on 02/18/2017
We're here at Toy Fair in New York,
and this year, Barbie turns 58 years old.
Over that span, she's been President of the United States,
Vice President of the United States,
a police officer,
but more importantly,
this year, she is also a hologram.
[Michelle] Hello Hologram Barbie brings Barbie to life
in a way that we never have before.
This is sort of a combination of a hologram,
which is already awesome,
but stuff like the Amazon Echo.
Where it's-- Yeah.
You can voice control what Barbie's doing.
This takes that same notion,
but instead of talking to a black box,
you're talking to an iconic, holographic,
amazing character that you know.
So obviously, the real box is the smaller one.
Yeah.
This is basically just a demo of the software.
You're still developing that to fit the small scale.
Exactly. Takes a really popular technology,
and makes it playable and entertaining for a girl.
They can ask Barbie about the weather.
[Barbie] 72 and sunny.
And tell Barbie to remind them of their mom's birthday.
Save me a piece of cake.
So I'm not the demographic, but can I try it out?
Yeah, go ahead and say, Hello, Barbie.
Hello, Barbie.
Hi, there. It's so good to see you!
There's all kinds of different customizable features,
so girls can choose whatever type of Barbie
hologram character they want to interact with.
She's an amazing Bluetooth speaker,
so, she can play all your favorite songs,
and you can dance along with Barbie.
Hello, Barbie. Let's dance.
(ballet music)
So she pirouettes.
Alright.
She's got some really good--
Could she dab? twists happening.
Can she dab? Yes, you just wait for it.
Cam Newton? Just wait for it.
[Tim] Can you do the Cam Newton?
[Michelle] Whoa. Yup.
[Tim] Wow. That's good stuff.
People are concerned about what's happening
to the voice data. Yes.
What are some of the things that you're doing
to ensure that the data,
the voice data is being protected and secured?
Privacy and safety is absolutely our highest concern.
All of the data collected is not shared.
It is absolutely private.
It is just used to continue to enhance the product,
and the play experience.
And we are continuing to innovate
and leverage cultural trends that we're seeing,
and putting them into Barbie's world,
and making them applicable for a girl.
