The Army is testing unmanned armored vehicles that play follow the leader to form a convoy. The 20-ton vehicles can transport equipment and follow the path of the lead vehicle using sensors.
The technology will eliminate the need for soldiers to do mundane tasks, and the robots have been able to keep up the pace at speeds of up to 40 mph. I'm guessing this wouldn't be used in dangerous areas as enemies could knock out the lead vehicle and then take over the entire convoy.
Similar technology for maintaining safe distances is already in commercial vehicles, but being able to adapt to changing paths brings us one step closer to the auto-piloted vehicles envisioned in Minority Report.
